My current show of scannography is on display at Altadena’s Coffee Gallery through this Friday!

The show comes down on the 31st, so please stop by if you can. I’m now working on my next show which will be at Caltech Feb. 14-17. Here’s the story Justin Chapman wrote on Altadena Patch.

Thanks, Justin!

Please join me Thursday, December 16, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the famed Coffee Gallery, 2029 N. Lake, Altadena. See my latest photographic work–done without a camera–in “Telling Images.” Libations and frivolity to be had!

If the technical gods are with me, I’ll be demonstrating how I make these images. Bring exotic flowers or trinkets to be part of the artwork I create on site. Anyone who contributes will receive a digital file of the image!

If it’s March, it must be time for the next group show at GATEOTW!

Come out Thursday March 4 for the artist’s reception, Friday night for the infamous party, or Saturday/Sunday for brunch. It’s Altadena’s art party! I’ll be showing more scanography. Here’s a sample.

Art-full Living

From the City:

The City of Los Angeles has declared January of each year
Los Angeles Arts Month.’

Los Angeles is a hothouse of culture and creativity where the cutting-edge is neighbored with the historic. Los Angeles Arts Month will encourage residents and visitors to explore the City’s vast cultural offerings and seek new cultural experiences:  from visiting a local gallery or museum little known to them, to catching a show at a small theater, to getting a taste of a multi-cultural festival.  Through community outreach, local promotional ticket giveaways, and a viral word-of-mouth and print and radio campaign, we are urging Angelenos to enjoy the best the art world has to offer without leaving Los Angeles.  And we hope they will make it an adventure by discovering a new museum or performing arts venue!

Long considered a haven for artists and creative expression, the
Los Angeles art scene includes—world-class museums; concert halls and cultural institutions; gallery rows; theatres; public art complexes and renowned art; theatre, film, and design schools.  Los Angeles boasts the country’s largest creative workforce, which includes our world-renowned film industry, and employs nearly 1 million people throughout the region.

What are YOU going to do for LA Arts Month?

http://www.laartsmonth.org/

I’m shifting focus a bit on this blog for the new year to cover more of the art world. I love photography, writing, theatre, the art world, local history, and various community activities. So that is what I’ll be focusing on, with the occassional news/crime item alert.  I also write a blog at www.digiphotomag.com on politics and photography. Photo L.A. is coming up Jan. 14, so I’ll be there to see what’s new–and old, and how photography illuminates issues around the globe.

I have several shows coming up this year so I’ll be working on pieces for those. If you’re a local artist, let’s meet here and talk art!

This piece sold last night!

So far the show is going great! Come on out to 2475 N. Lake Ave on Saturday 12-8 or so with a potluck BBQ, and Sunday 12-6 with a potluck brunch!

Here’s the fab artwork for the next art bender weekend in Altadena. Leaving the image sideways for now, so you can read the details.

Group Show Dec. 3-6, 2009

I’m a little behind on this, but here are some shots from the fabulous Art on Palm event in Wildwood Park on Oct. 10. MaryRose Smyth hosted with help from fellow artists. I need to caption a couple of them so you know who these incredible artists are. I will do so shortly. In the meantime, here are the pix!

From Carolyn,

There is some good news to report about the Station Fire – good for Altadena, not so good for some of our neighboring communities.

For Altadena, there are no more Mandatory Evacuation orders in place, and no Altadena areas are on the list of locations open to residents only. The entire Eastern Boundary of the Angeles National Forest will be closed effective 12:00 pm on September 3, 2009 until full containment of the Station Fire.

The only road closure left for Altadena is Chaney Trail, at the Angeles National Forest gate.

So, I hope we can all recoup and rest today and prepare to have some fun this weekend with the all the arts events going on.

FUN FUN FUN

Project Altadena will be up for viewing! Sponsored by the Altadena Arts Coalition, the prints from Altadenans who scoured the town with disposable cameras to capture their personal views (one of whom would be me), will be available for viewing beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday in the alley behind Altadena Hardware.

The Gallery at the End of the World has a show opening tonight! And nobody does an art opening better than Ben! http://www.galleryattheendoftheworld.com/

And Sunday, the fabulous Carol Channing plays at the Altadena Community Church to help them raise funds for a new roof. I was going to go, but another commitment will prevent that. But I’ll be out Friday and Saturday enjoying the fun!

And stop by the great businesses on Lake near the Gallery, like Websters Fine Stationers. Lori has brought it beautiful, locally made cards, custom decorative signage companies, and more. Won’t find what she has anywhere else nearby.

See you in Altadena!
